Flavor of the Week #37

Nicolas Jaar

www.nicolasjaar.net
( ;D --> Nicolas Jaar was born in NY but quickly relocated to Santiago de Chile in the 90s only to come back to his birth place as a teenager. Haunted by Mulatu Astatke and Erik Satie, Nico started to make organic electronic music in 2004 at the age of 14. At 17, he made his debut with “The Student EP” on Wolf and Lamb Music with a remix by Seth Troxler who called him " one of the most talented minds dance music is about to see develop".)

( ;D --> Apparat (Sascha Ring) is a German electronic musician living in Berlin and one of the owners of Shitkatapult records. Starting out with dance floor-oriented techno, he later started to create ambient music and more recently became "more interested in designing sounds than beats".)

( ;D --> A bunch of Berliners and Chicagoans manage to escape the winter and work on some music that will be released as "The Devil's Walk" on Mute Records in late September 2011.)

Douglas Greed
www.myspace.com/douglasgreed
www.douglas-greed.com/KRL
( ;D --> Over the years, we’ve come to know Douglas as a producer with a rather diverse view on all things electronic. His music is not easily to be categorized, as most of his releases can be seen as exciting fusions of (deep) house, minimal, downbeat, and techno. The same applies to his new album KRL, a collection of 12 mostly downtempo tracks of which every single one of them is a shapeshifting genre-crosser.)
“KRL”
DG_amazon
( ;D --> Douglas Greed’s KRL has become a rather unorthodox album marked by soothing but dark tracks that seem to transform continuously over the course of their playtime. Melodies and fx play major roles in its content, but it’s the overall vibe of each track that had me nailed to the couch during listening. If you’re looking for something special outside the ‘dance-or-I’ll-shoot’ spectrum, then this one’s for you.)

Ladytron
www.myspace.com/ladytron
www.ladytron.com
( ;D --> Ladytron blends electronic pop music and New Wave, using an array of vintage analogue equipment to achieve their distinct sound. Albums so far have focused on a balance between pop structures and digitally edited analogue electronic sound, along with some more experimental leanings including psychedelic elements. All four members write songs differently, which adds to the eclectic nature of their albums.)

( ;D --> In the past few years, Apoptygma Berzerk has forged an identity as a unique voice in the musical landscape. APB blends past experimentations in EBM, futurepop, goth, rock, pop, and more into a distinctive mélange that sets the group apart from its contemporaries. This EP is the second installment of the Black EP series and a companion to the album Rocket Science, featuring unreleased remixes, exclusive tracks, and a cover of the Joy Division classic Love Will Tear Us Apart.)
