Flavor of the Week #29

Digitalism
www.myspace.com/digitalism
www.thedigitalism.com
( ;D --> Digitalism is a German dance duo, founded in 2004 in Hamburg, Germany, consisting of Jens “Jence” Moelle and İsmail “Isi” Tüfekçi. They are signed to French label Kitsuné Music and have released four singles to date: “Idealistic”, “Zdarlight”, “Jupiter Room”, and “Pogo”. Jens likens Digitalism’s songs to simple chapters in a complex novel about social interaction and attraction, with distorted bass lines and thumping rhythms comprising the punctuation.)

Paul Kalkenbrenner

( ;D --> Even though reality shows have been trying to prove otherwise, a successful career as a musician, even as a pop star, cannot be forced with a pre-packaged crash course. As of 2010, Paul Kalkbrenner has tallied up more than 15 years of experience as a producer and live act, all the while learning what it means to go purposefully from one step to the next. When the Berlin Wall fell, he was 12. The s...oundtrack of his youth, and of the majority of his generation, was still in its infancy, awaiting its breakthrough: techno music.)

Andreas Gross

( ;D --> Andreas Gross may sound as a solo project, but there are about seven musicians involved with this, though the multi-instrumentalist Andreas Gross is the mastermind of the compositions here. The songs are dreamy carried on mostly by female vocals suitable to underline the beauty of the songs.)

Underworld
www.myspace.com/underworld
( ;D --> Underworld are an electronic band formed in the UK by Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, later joined by Darren Emerson. The band rose to prominence when their track "Born Slippy" was used in the film Trainspotting.)
Barking
U_amazon
( ;D --> Ever since Darren Emerson left the Underworld duo, their music lost an edge. The last album with Darren was Beaucoup Fish which was a classic. The last 2 albums got progressively boring and without creativity. I have to say after 2 listens though that Barking is definitely a step in the right direction. I would recommened it to fans of Underworld that gave up a few years ago.)

Washed Out
www.myspace.com/thebabeinthewoods
( ;D --> Washed Out is Ernest Greene, a young guy from Perry, Georgia, USA who makes bedroom synthpop that sounds blurred and woozily evocative, like someone smeared Vaseline all over an early OMD demo tape, then stayed up all night trying to recreate what they heard. There’s a sense of longing and distance in Greene’s somber, filtered vocals, but it’s what he does compositionally that makes Washed Out stand out. Backed by gently pulsing, Balearic-tinged disco, Greene’s voice takes on a new dimension. Reminiscent of groups like The Glass and the Chromatics, Washed Out is the music to end your night with, when the city is quiet and you’ve got a long walk home ahead of you.)
