Flavor of the Week #33

Plaid
( ;D --> One of my absolute favourite artists)
www.plaid.co.uk
( ;D --> Plaid is a British electronic music duo comprising Andy Turner and Ed Handley, and based out of London. They are former members of The Black Dog and used many other names, such as Atypic (Andrew Turner) and Balil (Ed Handley), before settling on Plaid. They have collaborated with female singers Mara Carlyle, Nicolette and Björk. Although Plaid pre-existed the association, the duo's Ed Handley and Andy Turner spent most of their early recording years with Ken Downie as the dancefloor-confounding Black Dog Productions. Meshing well with Downie's vision of heavily hybridized post-techno and obscurantist thematics.)

( ;D --> Preorder expected release date of the 26th of September.)
http://bleep.com/index.php?page=release_details&releaseid=31369
( ;D --> The CD will be initially available in a ‘Muda na Mono’ puzzle pack, the name taken from a Japanese phrase meaning ‘pointless object’. It contains two die-cut rings and a CD which can be assembled as per the diagram above. If correctly aligned, the sphere created allows the track titles to be read. The packaging reflects a desire to give the CD an ornamental function, beyond its one use as a basic storage device for music.)

ASC
http://theasc.blogspot.com
http://soundcloud.com/auxiliarylabel
( ;D --> ACS is rapidly becoming one of the most important names in electronic music. I'm not a massive fan of his older, more conventional drum 'n bass material, but in the last couple of years Clements has found an outlet for a much more ambient and experimental direction. Obviously the hype centres around his role in the Autonomic sound, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Melding ambient and IDM with drum 'n bass, dubstep, techno and a huge obsession with science fiction culture and philosophy, ASC is making some of the most cutting edge music around that still evokes the spaced-out futurism that has defined so much of electronic music for the past 40 years.)

Joachim Witt
www.myspace.com/JoachimWitt
( ;D --> Joachim Witt became a major star of the German pop scene during the eighties with huge hits such as "Der Goldene Reiter". He was one of the biggest names of the "Neue Deutsche Welle" (New German Wave), of which performers like Nena and Falco were also a part. He made a big comeback at the end of the nineties, when he scored a major hit with "Die Flut", a duet with Peter Heppner, the singer of popular German synth pop group Wolfsheim. Witt's album "Bayreuth 1" (1998) scored platinum in Germany and Austria. "Bayreuth 2" followed two years later. He has collaborated with such artists as Apocalyptica, Oomph!, Angelzoom, Tilo Wolff of Lacrimosa and just recently, German Electropop group Purwien as well.)
