Flavor of the week #34

Justus Köhncke
www.myspace.com/justuskoehncke
( ;D --> Extending his voracious musical appetite for all things avant-garde, pop, and dance into his own output, German producer Justus Köhncke has flirted with the charts, covered Janis Ian and Marvin Hamlisch, and has released material on the Kompakt label. Köhncke deliveres a future-balearic space disco trip with sparkles in the eyes, hands floating in the air, the body drifting to the vibe. Even the coldest season becomes summery hot with Justus’ heartrending melodies and synth sequences. He’s a likeable romantic, sometimes overemotional and euphoric, sometimes quite melancholic with beatless ambient pieces. Köhnke recalls long-forgotten spaced out disco.)

( ;D --> Konrad is the American song constructionist Jeffrey Konrad who puzzles together his unique brand of vocal poetics with a sorted sonic DNA that exhibits strains of indie, folk and electro. In the past he's recorded as an experimental electronica musician known as "Robot USA" as well as a folksy singer-songwriter called "Nigel Jeffrey". In mid-2000 Konrad launched Radical Turf Records; an imprint founded with the intent of releasing compilation albums by underground electronic artists. 3 compilations and 2 full lengths later, the label continues to evolve as a medium for eclectic and eccentric audio.)

( ;D --> Amsterdam-based darkwave act Clan of Xymox will release their newest album, In Love We Trust, August 18. The album purportedly returns to the band's sound from their early years with label 4AD while still creating an "up to date" sound. Clan of Xymox, who are now celebrating over 25 years of music creation, will release their newest CD through Metropolis Records.)

Yello
www.yello.ch
( ;D --> The ambitious Swiss electronic duo Yello comprised vocalist/conceptualist Dieter Meier -- a millionaire industrialist, professional gambler, and member of Switzerland's national golf team -- and composer/arranger Boris Blank. Meier, a former solo artist who also spent time with the group Fresh Colour, began collaborating with Blank in 1979, and the duo bowed with the single "I.T. Splash." After signing with the Residents' label, Ralph Records, Yello issued their 1980 debut LP, Solid Pleasure, which spawned the dance hit "Bostitch.")

Touch
Relese October the 2nd
( ;D --> Yello has been invited by Electronic Beats Classics to take part in a visionary new music experiment: the virtual concert. The cornerstone of the evening in Berlin will be the world premiere of “Touch Yello”, a 50-minute documentary that visualizes the group’s new album – to be released October 2009 -- and evokes moods, pictures and movie scenes. This is the logical next chapter in Yello’s 30-year history, which has seen the electronic innovators pushing the limits of music video production since 1981, when they released "Pinball Cha Cha”, a suave figure-oriented video that was later included in the Museum of Modern Art's Music Video Exhibition.)
